Youth Art Studio: Foundations & Exploration (Ages 12–16)

Designed for young artists ages 12 to 16, this 12-week after-school studio program provides hands-on, expert-led instruction across diverse mediums, from acrylics and watercolours to printmaking, pastels, sculpting and spatial drawing. Capped at just 10 students to ensure personalized guidance, creators will master core techniques, discover iconic art styles, and build confidence before showcasing their portfolio in a final Student Art Show.

Schedule: Mondays @ 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Course Highlights & Materials Covered:

  • Skill & Technique Focus: Intensive focus on fundamental art techniques, skill development, material exploration, and learning about the global art world.

  • Versatile Mediums: Hands-on experience working with acrylic and watercolour paints, plasticine, drawing materials (including charcoal, pencil, oil pastels, and chalk pastels), sculpting materials, collage, printmaking, mixed media, and contemporary craft.

  • Technique & Application: Learn essential techniques, tricks, and technical skills within each medium while innovating and discovering new, fresh ways to apply them.

  • Process-Driven Artistry: Emphasizes the creative process of art-making over just the final product, offering clear direction and technique for specific structured projects.

  • Daily Warm-ups: Fun, fast-paced warm-up drawing activities at the start of every class.

  • Observational & Imaginative Drawing: Practice drawing both from imagination and direct observation.

  • Spatial Foundations: Work across 2D and 3D formats while mastering line work, shading, perspective, and positive/negative space.

  • Art History & Inspiration: Study famous artists and contemporary art styles to develop original, individual expressions of art.

  • Personal Growth & Confidence: Dedicated time for students to explore their creative identity, build self-confidence, and express themselves through art.

  • Student Art Show: All completed art projects remain at the studio until the end of the term, culminating in an end-of-semester Student Art Show where students proudly share their portfolio with family and friends on Week 12 before taking all artwork home!
